Medical and Insurance
-
Parents are required to complete a health form and students must submit it before the trip. The school and staff need to be aware of any medical issues, physical conditions or allergies along with any medications students will be taking during LWBW. Trip leaders will inform parents of any vaccines/shots that are required for the area the students are visiting. It is the responsibility of the parents to arrange these medical appointments and provide confirmation to the school.
-
The trip leaders will carry a first aid kit that will contain typical items that might be needed. Trip leaders have access to an emergency phone number where they can get medical advice while outside of the country. For international trips the insurance coverage is included in the fee and does not need to be purchased independently.
-
It is strongly advised that if you choose a trip within the Czech Republic where you will be outdoors that you make sure your Tick-borne Encephalitis vaccinations are up to date.
Health and Safety considerations
-
The LWBW program introduces students to risks beyond those typically encountered in standard on-campus classes. Trips involving travel, physical activities, and exploration entail inherent risks; however, safety remains the utmost priority and is meticulously considered in the planning and execution of courses.
-
Staff Protocol - Teachers receive thorough briefings on emergency procedures and are empowered to take necessary actions, including altering itineraries or making critical decisions, to safeguard students' well-being.
-
Rest assured, the school places a high priority on ensuring the safety of both students and staff. Should circumstances dictate, trips may be altered or cancelled due to safety concerns, political instability, or security issues. Please note, in such instances, refunds cannot be guaranteed by Park Lane.
Behaviour expectations
during LWBW
Positive interactions among students, staff, guides, and community members are integral to the ethos of all Learning Without Borders Week trips. It is imperative that students refrain from causing inconvenience or compromising the safety of the group.
Students must assure the staff of their readiness to participate in the course and pledge to support the group throughout its duration.
Additionally, students are expected to review the trip schedule and ensure they possess the physical capability to engage in all activities.
Throughout the course, all Park Lane school rules remain in effect. This includes strict adherence to regulations regarding insubordination, tobacco, illegal non-prescription drugs, and alcohol.
Violations such as blatant disregard for curfew or accessing restricted areas will not be tolerated.
Moreover, students must comply with all local laws. Staff, in consultation with the school leadership team, retain full authority to send home any student whose behaviour is deemed unacceptable or compromises the safety of the group. Should the need arise to send a student home, the associated expenses will be borne by the parents.
